This is my first design on Threadless. The tree is all hand drawn by pencil. I think trees are very beautiful and can hold a lot of symbolic meanings within their branch shapes, bark lines, etc. That is why I created this piece with a lot of swirly lines that have a lot of meaning to me.

I hope you guys like it! Thanks!

It's a really nice drawing. I think compositionally it would work even better if the branches didn't cut-off abruptly at the top, but congrats on a nice first sub.

I agree with the masses here. The top looks awkwardly stright

Thank you for all your comments....I agree actually with how it cuts off. I drew it like that on the paper, and couldn't quite figure out how to fix it in photoshop.....any suggestions?

Thanks again! :)

i like the tree, but i agree.... the branches being cut off at the top really takes away from the design

I would suggest bringing the branches over the shoulders and onto the back so they look like roots. But that's just me.
froeset
froeset on Jan 26 '08
Beautiful … but totally continue the branches upward! It would be cool if they went over the shoulders and looked like roots on the other side.

Maybe you could try just a slightly higher placement. Not sure if this link will work:

this is a definate re-sub. Threadless can cover the full area of the shirt. That tree could stretch across the entire shirt with all its gnarly detailed goodness.
resub!

Nice rendering of the tree. I agree with the comments on the abrupt cut-off. Your reworked image is a start, but needs some tweaking to get rid of the fade-out overlaps. The tree should also thin out its trunk as it goes up, not get wider. I think this would be nice if reworked a bit and resubbed.

it would be cooler if the branches grew around the neck

as you've heard before, look into extending the branches to the shoulder blades.

and again...the top is awkward. and again.......over the shoulders not just a straight line across....looks like you put a lot of effort into drawing while on a piece of paper and then decided to just stick on a t-shirt...needs a little follow through. nice style though!

I like this tree, I Love the way it cuts off at the top! It's like my head is God looking down on the tree.
Maybe the tee should be named " My head is God"

I actually like the tree lopped off at the top. It reminds me of some of the weirdos in my hometown that would trim their weeping willows straight across the bottom. $5
svrtknkrr
   svrtknkrr on Jan 31 '08
love it.

I think that if you should cut it, cut it even more. Not the illustration but let the cut stay in the middle or something. Because now it looks like it suppose to be all the way up. But if you do a hard cut, then it make more sense.

sry for the bad english :D

Love the illustration and it's a fantastic 1st sub, but I have to agree with not cutting the top off. I'm giving this a 4 anyway, but 5$ if you re-sub it.
ohmyitserin
ohmyitserin on Jan 31 '08
this is nice

and about the tree being cut off at the top, you could always try blending/ smudging the ends a bit if the straightness looks awkward...
but i like it either way :D

nettajean on Feb 01 '08
Try taping a new piece of paper under your original drawing to make room to draw extended branches. Don't use Photoshop. You'll never get the delicately hand drawn look of the original.

You know what? I regret not giving this a 5$, cut off branches or not, because it's just such a beautiful drawing. I'm sure if it prints you can work something out, so I'm going to join SheepMan22 by yelling "PRINT!"
