Two strangers meet in the sky

this is probably a dumb question
but shouldn't the eyes on the cardinal be pointing towards the owl? is that an owl? right now, it seems liek they're not really meeting in the sky but rather avoiding a common enemy, like a cat or something, below them.
that being said, the characters are sweet, nice coloring, nicely finished.4
