I would want to wear any semblence to a communist leader responsible for a peacetime death toll in the tens of millions...why?

the technique is cool but I wouldnt want this particular person on my shirt

Avarice is right. If you mocked Mao or put someone less... evil on the shirt this would score higher. 5 for the technique though. I wanna see more!

I like the technique, though not too sure if I like Mao.

Brilliant job! Use this technique on another image as well known as Mao, and I'll cry tears of joy =)

Why would I want to wear a shirt with Mao Tse Tsung on it?

Well I already wear the Communist Party so I guess I am a little bit of a hypocrite.

Haha, the same reason why people wear Che Guevara around?

Isn't this what the artist Space Invaders does?

I give it a 3, the design is awesome, the subject not so much.
Pookiepookstar
Pookiepookstar on Nov 15 '07
I'm pretty sure that originally, the Space Invader's project only involved tiles (mainly of the same colour) in the shapes of the Space Invader characters. Not optical illusion, and certainly not in the vain of Rubik cubes. Other people have designed other versions involving different coloured tiles, but I don't think they are very similar to this. :)

This was kinda done before with that pixellated Jesus design.

Mao's NOT cool. Communism maybe, but Mao, no. Get over it, murderers generally aren't popular.

Just to add my vote to the "great idea, but cruddy man". What made you choose Mao?!!! I agree it is ironic that people like walking round in Che Guevara t-shirts - the man planned to nuke the eastern seaboard of the USA.

reminds me of mosiac messiah, which is one of my favorite shirts.
ffernando
ffernando on Nov 16 '07
well, everyone seems to get so caught up in the fact that they dont like mao.

whether you like mao or not is irrelevant. is the shirt any good?

and to answer my own question: sorry, i think the cubes are a little big and you can't really tell who it is. if you hadn't said it was mao i wouldn't have noticed.
dd33
dd33 on Nov 16 '07
the shirt is very cool, but could we maybe have a more admirable person...i mean a shirt can look good but wearability is definitely an issue when it comes to those with murderous dicatators on them
so ya the fact that mao is on it IS an issue

But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow

howdyrockerbaby on Nov 16 '07
The Beatles' Revolution was the first thing that popped into my head as well.

I like the concept and the excecution, but am no willing to wear Mao on a tee. 1 w/ Mao, $5 w/ pretty much anyone else.

whether you like mao or not is irrelevant. is the shirt any good?

...So you're saying that the subject matter of a shirt doesn't have any impact on it's overall appeal at all?
Oh man...I've been scoring all 20,000+ of these past submissions incorrectly.

thanks moocowmoo...i was about to open up all kinds of disdain on that comment before you got to it first.

The fact that shirt has grandmothers being raped and burned while their families watched is irrelevant. Is the shirt any good?

dude is the north korea or china leader?
anyhow, looks awesome
davemcarlson
davemcarlson on Nov 19 '07
Cool idea. I'd prefer it to be Lincoln or some other iconic face, but still a great idea for a shirt, and I'd pay money for it.
aqueoustransmegan
aqueoustransmegan on Nov 19 '07
i'm not so much down on the mao or anything and I'm not about to insult you for your subject choice [i own communist party so that would be kinda lame :P] but unlike that shirt there's no joke here so I don't get why I would want a mao shirt? [ie. I don't] I think the neato-arty appeal of the cubes is kinda awesome but since i am pretty nonplused over wearing mao on my shirt i wouldn't buy it.

...now if you did like cubed somebody I think is awesome I might!

AGREED! to most of the comments. i had to climb over chairs in the other room to even have a guess at who it was--but i think that works too. in a crowd of people 20 feet away, people can still see the design. wayyyyy rad.

agreed also about the poor subject. (yes -kwanster-, n. korea).

Yes, I like your technique a lot, but you ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow until you change it to a little less controversial figure. :)

I think the only reason I could really see that it was Mao was because I live in China, and let's face it, when every single piece of paper money has his face plastered all over it, you get to recognize it more easily than most people. And also because it was in the title.

If not for those two things I would never have figured it out, so yes, smaller squares would be good. And maybe someone else. I'm not sure people would want to wear Mao tshirts...

I dig it. Mao rocks. Uh, maybe not. But the shirt's cool.
