This is maybe a little too copyright-enfringey for me, but I love the concept.

Haha. As a LONG time Simpsons fan, this makes me laugh.
fatheed
   fatheed on Jun 05 '07
No - I think you needs to keep the solid hair at the back to avoid copyright issues. I like the fact that it resembles Homer, rather than actually being a perfect illustration of the character (i.e. no massive round eyes) Lose the sign though - it's force-feeding us the puchline and we already got the joke.

Plus - in real English language, it's spelled Doughnuts. Crazy Americans, bastardising our langauge by cutting out unnecessary letters!

Exactly what fathead mentioned. It is just a half bald guy who is munching a donut guy... no copyright involved.

it reminds me of the cheap rip off t-shirts they sell on bordertowns of mexico, might as well put a look alike mickey mouse in the corner that is just as badly done.

Funny, but the donut sign isn't necessary.
laerwen
laerwen on Jun 05 '07
This is really great. I think you walk the line of resembling Homer without crossing it -- the hair is the reason. Also, I agree with people about the sign. We get that it's doughnuts because of your "Homer" and the Michelin Man look-alike.

If it's bordrline infringement might as wlel make it even more,
e.g. making it two hair on his head, and no hair on the back, the nose, beard and eyes are different, but at least the hair will be right

evlbuny on Jun 06 '07
I like it, but I also think it would be better without the sign. The problem then is that he is looking off into space. Maybe you could have him turned horizontally, lose the sign, and have him looking down at the :donut man" while he is eating part of him.

yeah this is pretty sweet, but take away the hair at the back and the sign isnt really necessary :) good and unique!

Grillsovs
Grillsovs on Jun 07 '07
Put the Michelin guy's head more in the front so it's more obvious what's happening. And Homer needs to look more Homer and less like a copy.

In fact, I'm not too keen on you ripping off The Simpsons. Make it a fat police officer instead - that'd be über :D

Parody laws would protect this design even if it were an exact copy of both homer and the michelin man. That said, for purely aesthetic reasons I prefer the characters the way they are. It makes it feel a little more subversive. Kudos on a great design. Hope this gets through.

parody laws may protect the design, but threadless has more than enough original art designs that they won't need to take any risks getting into a lawsuit with Fox anytime soon. nice design, but destined to never see print on this site.
