the text is necessary...crit in the crit section...

sometimes you don't need to THINK too hard to appreciate something. this isn't quantum physics, it's a t-shirt design.

Then again, I don't think the design is very strong with or without the text. I don't see the point of this except for to attempt to be a semi-cute image. It's not doing anything for me. 1. Sorry dude.

I like it! Only I'm not sure if it has a point or joke or anything...I prefer the t's I buy from here to be somewhat witty. And I don't think that was the intention here...Which is fine. It looks great.

I like it and I have to agrre with the artist: text is necessary, in this case. And I really liked your idea on tees not needing to be like quantum physics, even tho most people here probably disagree.

I generally feel if you need to explain your design for people to understand it, then your design has failed.

to those that don't get it: there's nothing (or at least not much) to get.

if you do get it, you'll chuckle. if you don't you'll be baffled. regardless of either, if you like the image, vote high...if you don't like jpiatt, vote low.

but again, it isn't brainsurgery in which you need to "get it" or someone's brain get's scrambled...it's a shirt, and if you don't "get it" you can still put it on.

lemme ask you one thing:
AH MUNNA EATCHU...you know that muffin with a face saying that...one colour...NOTHING TO GET. you all still loved it.

In AH MUNNO EATCHU i think the text relates more to the muffin. Since humans eat muffins, it's the muffin seeking revenge. But with 'Mercy is for the weak" I don't see the relation to the mountain scenery. Ambiguous.

The text is good because its very deep and serious and contrasts with the cuteness and weeness (does that word exist) of the rest of the shirt, at least that is how I interpreted this.

I wonder if you know what that word means. It's a completely different shirt with the text. Like everyone and their grandmother is saying, 'ROMG cute w/o text lol!' With the text it's less cute. Reminds me of the Engrish stuff a little, just for the sheer dichotomy of the text and picture. I'd probably buy it with the text, I'd maybe give it to a three year old without it.

the idea is great, the graphics, not so much. It seems jokey. A more serious font with some kind of threatening image would be more powerful, like a mountain in a storm or something.

i'm not looking for some deeper meaning hidden within the text of this shirt. i'm just taking it like it is and not worrying about whether or not i "get" anything. like woody guthrie said, "any damn fool can be complicated; it's the simplicity that retains genius."

that said, juxtaposition is a pretty genius tool. it's the easiest and most effective form of irony-- and aren't we all fans of irony? just take the unexpected for what it is and don't try and make a correlation that means something. if a "statement" was in the works here, i'd bet it'd be more obvious. they usually are.

i don't know why people can't just enjoy a fun design.

I just think of the Karate Kid when i hear or see the words "Mercy is for the Weak!" And then Johnny sweeps the leg. This illo, however, is cute and random but not for me. How to improve it? Sell it to someone else who might like it, but it's not my thing. BTW, R.O.B. the Robot, you threw many people off by them thinking that to "get it" you needed to associate the words on the shirt with the scene above it. So, way to mis-direct people. Wierd and/or random for the sake of being weird and/or random never does much for me, so I must pass. Like i said, not a bad illo tho.
