it's finally driven me byond insanity.

when it's slow at work, i want to draw, doodle, work on designs. but i never have my sketchbooks or any good pens.
tons of ideas flood into my head. but nothing to do with them, so i get on the freaking 'net.

SO then when i do bring paper and supplies- in the hopes it will be slow, we are too busy for me to even THINK about working on stuff. To even unzip my bookbag.

and for every day i leave art supplies at work, we're too busy for me to ever even begin.

BUT as soon as i give up and bring my stuff back home, we will be deathly slow again- until of course, i attempt to bring my art supplies back in.

the cruel cycle has me ripping my eyeballs out.

do you have these problems?

I usually have great ideas when I can't do anything with them. Like when I'm out to dinner, in the shower late for work, or shopping at the grocery store.

I think everyone has this to a degree. The first person to master the unpredictable wins.

Buy another sketchbook and leave it at work with one good drawing implement.

Quit your job!

I realise that may be impractical.

tried it! and we will be pertpetually swamped! it's like the voodoo way to make my job money, leave art supplies there.

although MAYBE, if i can perfectly match what supplies i keep at home, and what i keep at work...maybe that will tip the balance. or be like a falling cat with buttered toast strapped to it's back, theoretically- the artistic energy/job freetime balance will be trapped in rotating equilibrium.

That is why I went freelance. I couldn't be creative and design the way I wanted to at the dayjob.

It was a good experience but I'm much happier now.

Freelancing is no joy ride though, a lot of frustration and empty pockets until you get the ball rolling but I wouldn't change it for world.

I circumvent these problems by being a lazy good-for-nothing student.

well, i'm trying the transition method. doing some freelance now to build cred and saving $$ before i quit the day job to go whole hog.

I would love to freelance full time. I do it on the side right now and it's hard to keep my brain working. I find myself using a lot of gimmick stuff at my regular job that I never wanted to do in design.

I think there will be a few different subs in the top 20 once all the loves threadless have finsihed scoring. Travis has to be up there somewhere, his last few subs have lifted the bar on here--------

I don't know if anyone else who's been hanging around threadless for far too long (like myself) gets really excited when under-printed designers put out a sure thing - but I know I do. I feel the same way about this as when I first saw "No Peeking" by Jublin. That "THIS is a print and it couldn't happen to a better person."
Enjoy your...uh...12 pack of Red Bull.
