This took me forever to figure out so I will share it with Threadless in hopes you keep sane when saving

Are you using photoshop and when you save for web your colors change drastically?

(the original is the washed out save for web version, boosting my green by 36 brought the colors back to what they should look like in photoshop)
colorexample

. Typically the problem comes from your web browser, photoshop uses color profiles but web browsers have no color management whatsoever.
when you save your photo through the "save for web option" at the top right corner just to the left of save you will see 2 arrows }}
click that and switch between windows or mac colors (what you worked the photo in) and uncompensated colors (what your browser will display)

What you will need to do is: if it washes out your greens go back to
Image-
Adjustments-
Color Balance-

- now boost your green or whatever color more than they should be. Go to save for web and make sure you are looking at it under uncompensated color, now if you shrink the save for web window and move it next to the original on your photoshop clipboard you will see the difference.

just understand switching between windows/mac and uncompensated isnt changing your colors, its only showing you what will happen when viewed through web or desktop

So if you are sending photos to be printed or to a friend do not boost your colors, they will show up very saturated.

Usually when I save something for the web I first convert the document's profile to sRGB .IEC 61966-2.1 and then the only thing you have to worry about is the reds which usually turn a bit yellowish so before saving a apply hue/sat layer adjust them and I'm done.

Hmm I don't have that problem but I also use color profiles. Maybe that's the key? I think I use sRGB

oh boy. I just found out that everything I've ever drawn on this computer is vertically squished ever-so-slightly, and now I have even more to worry about.

I'm bookmarking this page though! thanks dude.

yeah, this is a big help - I have severe monitor issues with my colors. All my monitors at work are calibrated for newsprint and my home monitor has been slowly dying for 5 years - knowing that I can get some consistency when saving is super helpful.
I've been trying to use only the "websafe colors" in the Color Index book, too, lately - assuming they know what they're doing.

I dont usually have a problem as long as I convert to RGB before saving for web.
